Attracting Talent - What is your Employee Value Proposition?

After a particularly challenging 18 months of uncertainty and most likely some still to come, Covid-19 has had a significant impact on the talent pool in ways that we could not imagine. Employees have had 18 months to adjust to working from home and flexible working. They have had a chance to reappraise their lives and determine what is valuable to them - time, family, career or even change of career. Some have decided to opt-out of corporate life and work for themselves, others have negotiated to work part-time allowing more work / life balance.

This all leads to interesting and exciting opportunities for the Executive and Middle Management jobseeker and challenging for the Employer. The balance has changed - it is a jobseekers market - the employer must have a strong Employee Value Proposition (EVP). Attracting top talent will be about this. What do you offer your employees in terms of flexibility, working conditions - for example, 100% working from home, or 100% back into the office environment, or a hybrid version? How, as an employer, did you adjust to the pandemic and more importantly what did your existing staff think about the way the pandemic was handled by the company? What provisions have been put in place should there be another crisis? Salaries will still feature but may not be seen as the deciding factor. The indications are that top talent will want a proposition that includes demonstrable care and concern for the individual. This will be particularly helpful as we move into a post pandemic world where we will see mental health come to the forefront created by the challenges we have faced.

Companies will need to have listened to their employees and communicate clearly with open dialogue, enabling input and shared values, encouraging feedback from staff and using it to enhance the Brand.

Value to a job offer will include flexible working, access to medical care, mental health support, external professional coaching, competitive salaries, sustainability, a social conscience, a good brand and presence in the international arena.
